PowWowing On-line

  It's all about communities. Howard Rheingold wrote it — in his book the Virtual Community — and it's all heading there. People on-line gather in communities, marked by interests, hobbies, and sometimes age and sex. It's like the real world really. Only, not.

PowWow is a chat system brought by Tribal Voice. Though it was released before ICQ it has also adapted the ICQ appearance. The buddy list, listing friends on line, and the PowWow icon in the lower rigth corner of the screen. It's fairly easy to make new friends at PowWow, people seem to be less terrorized by strangers, and therefor don't react as harsh as on ICQ or IRC.

The fun thing about PowWow is that you can surf the web together while chatting. The cruise leader has the wheel and the other just follow. Eventually it'll probably be just another communication program but now it's somewhat unique for this feature.
