The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
   Douglas Adams

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the GalaxyAll Arthur Dent wants from life is the usual. A steady job, a house and to be able to relax at the pub after work. But this particular day starts awfully wrong. Arthur finds himself crawling in the mud in front of a bulldozer as some working men turn up to demolish his house in order to make way for a bypass. But soon Arthur gets other things to worry about. In just a couple of minutes the whole earth is about to be destroyed in order to make way for an intergalactic highway. Arthur's closest friend, Ford prefect turns out to be a hitchhiker from a small planet somewhere in the vicinity of Betelguese, who planned staying on earth for a couple of hours, but by accident got stuck for thirty years. And this is only the beginning.
Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is just as crazy and fun as it sounds.
