Prodigy: The Fat of the Land
THE FAT OF THE LAND
Prodigy

British techno took Europe by the throat by agitating for wife-battering in the song, Smack My Bitch Up. But while the adults argued about the immoral of the song the kids just shook their heads - who's going to become violent just because of some lyrics? - and digged Prodigy even more.

Prodigy's album Fat of the Land, is not as fat counted in minutes, but the fatter musically speaking. The tracks are fast and hard, but also have influences from Arabic music, as in Smack My Bitch Up.

From releasing their first single, Everybody in the Place, in 1991, and later performing the somewhat odd song and video Out of Space in 1992 Prodigy have come to be one of the top bands within the techno scene. Having left behind tracks as No Good (Start the Dance), the heavy beats and funky grooves of Poison and now the heavy sounds of Fat of the Land, Prodigy weigh more than many.
